New Build Insulation Services

Each home is unique...Email us your plans and elevations and we will prepare an estimate. As always give us a call and discuss your requirements, we are always here to help and offer guidance, ask all the questions you have, no matter how silly you think they are, and we will provide all the information required.

We can quote for the following elements of your new home...

Roof - The easiest route that the heat takes is straight up and out through the roof, hot air rises (like a hot air balloon) so air tight insulation under the roof is the most important. Air tightness can be achieved with 130mm of Icynene but to achieve a u-value which meets the requirements for building control for a new house 150mm to 250mm will be required.

Walls - Most new timber framed houses are built with a 145mm X 45mm timber frame, this can be fully filled and trimmed off so that the plasterboard can be fitted, but more often a service zone is installed for somewhere to run the cables. If insulation is installed in the timber frame pockets only, there is no insulation over the structural elements such as cripple studs, lintels etc. A nice detail which will greatly improve the efficiency of a 145mm timber frame is to install 45mm X 50mm timber branders, we can then install 45 mm of insulation over all the structural timbers, this produce a high level of air tightness, greatly improving the efficiencies.

Floor - Most new house have solid floors with under floor heating, so these slabs will be well insulated to stop the heat from the slab being lost into the ground, this is best achieved using a closed cell polyurethane board around 150mm thick. If the floor is a suspended floor, Icynene can be applied to the underside of the floor deck, usually 100-130mm is all that is required here, as we are stopping cold air getting drawn in more than heat escaping down the way. At this thickness Icynene is deemed to be fully airtight.

Windows and doors are usually installed, but we can install Icynene without the windows installed, but the building needs to be wind and water tight to ensure you get the best installation possible, you only get one chance to do it right, and the benefit lasts the life of the building, saving money for many years to come. It is well worth taking the time to make sure that a layer of Icynene is continuous and as un-broken as possible...this produces high levels of air tightness eliminating convected heat loss. If Passivhaus levels of air tightness are required (<0.6 ACH) then a continuous layer 130mm thick is required; Icynene is classed as an air barrier at this thickness.

We have access to Icynene’s full technical back up team to ensure that any questions you have no matter how technically in depth, we will hopefully be able to give you the answers and the peace of mind in knowing that you are making the right decision.
